From, Piazzale Lido, in the hamlet Carciano di Stresa, the cable way Stresa-Alpino-Mottarone starts. It takes 20 minutes to reach an altitude of 1.491 metres above sea level and brings 40 people per cage.
The Mottarone, situated between Lake Maggiore and Lake d’Orta, is considered one of the most beautiful natural balconies in the whole Piedmont, and not only. Its orographical formation allows the tourist’s gaze to sweep over 3500 from the Po Valley to the summits of the Alps. The visitor's eye Is struck by the summit of Monte Rosa and by the seven lakes (Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta, Lake Mergozzo, Lake Varese, Lake Comabbio, Lake Monate, Lake Biandronno), lying in a natural basin, which give the impression you can take them with the hand of fantasy.
The Mottarone is not only breathtaking view, but also Land of amusement and diversion in every season: its possible to practice winter sports, go trekking, hang-gliding, make exciting descents from the Top by mountain bike on properly marked paths, also renting a bicycle right on the spot, relax at the table with typical menus of the region in the characteristic restaurants. For nature Lovers, moreover, 300 metres from the intermediate stop of the cable way in the hamlet Alpino we suggest to visit the Botanical Garden Alpinia with aver 500 essences, unique of its kind for the typology of its plants, solely of alpine origin.

Il Trenino a grimagliera Stresa - Mottarone
Nel 1911 venne inaugurato il trenino che dalla Piazza della Stazione portava fino in ima alla vetta del Mottarone in appena 40 minuti. Lo scenario che si presentava ai viaggiatori era sicuramente di imperdibile bellezza, soprattutto nelle giornate di primavera e d'autunno, quando i colori della montagna e del Lago Maggiore sono più accesi e vivi di lluce pulsante. Nel 1934 il nostro trenino portò fino alla veetta del Mottarone gli atleti del I° Slalom Gigante disputato in Italia per la coppa d'Oro del Duce.
Altra particolarità del trenino Stresa Mottarone era quella che durante il periodo invernale approvvigionava di neve gli alberghi e le ghiacciaie dei macellai, infatti alcune carrozze scoperte venivano adibite a questo scopo.
La chiusura di questa tratta avvenne nel 1963, quando venne sostituito con la Funivia che collega Stresa con il Mottarone e la locomotiva è stata acquistata dalle Ferrovie Svizzere che tuttìoggi la usano per portare i turisti in qualche località prestigiosa elvetica.
